90 New Homes for Mabe

Truro based developers Westcountry Land have secured planning permission for 90 family homes in Mabe. 30 of these will be affordable and available to rent by local people.

Westcountry Land's special purpose company, Treliever Developments, has collaborated with Taylor Wimpey to secure this planning permission.
After a vote of 15 to 1 last Thursday, Cornwall Council's strategic planning committee emphatically endorsed the scheme in line with the planning officer's recommendations.
The developers have agreed to provide £470,000 of financial contributions to the village. These include £140,000 for a pedestrian crossing linking Mabe to Penryn near the Asda roundabout, £170,000 to improve the village's public open space and £160,000 for Mabe School.
This planning permission for 90 homes represents an £8,000,000 investment in the Cornish construction industry. Westcountry Land in conjunction with Taylor Wimpey have pledged to use local contractors to carry out the majority of this work. Construction will begin within the next six months and the whole development is expected to be completed within three years.

The main benefit of the proposed development was considered to be the delivery of much needed affordable housing to local families. The planning committee commended the affordable housing provision, which will all be for rent by local families, in accordance with the council's highest priority. Westcountry Land's approach to public consultation and engagement with parish council throughout the last three years was also noted.
The house designs by Truro based CSA Architects were praised. The use of local stone and slate ensure that the houses will sit naturally within their landscape and there is no design distinction between the open market and affordable housing.
