Bude Interflora florist Erica Tippett, 25, has been nominated for Junior Florist of the Year at this year’s RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year competition, thanks to an inspiring floral creation and use of test tubes.
Erica’s display included a number of clear test tubes arranged in perspex which held delicate and colourful flower arrangements. Achieving 91 marks out of 100, Erica sailed into the finals and will now represent her flower shop, Bleujen, at this year’s Chelsea Show.
This is Erica’s third year in the competition and her final one in the Junior section. Next year she steps up to the Senior level and she couldn’t be more excited. She says, “I’ve learned so much over the past three years and I’m looking forward to this next challenge. I love seeing everyone else’s designs and interpretations of the theme at Chelsea.”
“I’m inspired by traditional trends and it’s important to choose the right flowers for the look, such as roses, lilies and orchids, as well as flowers that will last the two days of the show without fading.”
From Interflora florists in Plymouth, Newquay, and the surrounding areas, Erica is the only finalist from the south-west of England and we’re eagerly looking forward to seeing her display at Chelsea this year. The florists will be competing to win Gold, Silver-Gilt, Silver and Bronze RHS medals, presented by The UK Floristry Judges Guild on behalf of the RHS. After winning a silver medal at last year’s show, Erica is keen to bring home a gold medal this year.
