Expansion of Local Ferry Company

The South West's leading ferry company has added to its refit team and moved to a new facility as it prepares for a busy winter of refit work.

Cornwall Ferries Ltd operates ferry services between Truro, St Mawes and Falmouth, as well as delivering marketing services and festivals with over 300 partners in the area under the Fal River Cornwall banner.
The move has seen the company add three new members to its refit team taking the number to 12, who will be responsible for maintaining the company's fleet of 12 vessels, many of which are classic wooden craft.
Tim Light, Cornwall Ferries' Managing Director said: "We are delighted to be in our new shed as it gives us much more control over our annual refits and means we are much less effected by the winter weather.
"It is also a much nicer work environment for the staff and makes it much easier to get the fantastic quality of work we are looking for.
"We have a lovely fleet of classic wooden vessels, including our new ferry the Duchess of Cornwall, and we are committed to keeping these looking and performing really well.
"Our customers love our boats and many know them by name, they have so much character and charm.
"We also want to support traditional boat building skills and keep them alive and this is the perfect opportunity."
The first vessel to use the facility was the Duchess of Cornwall for a check-up before going into service on the St Mawes Ferry run where she will journey between St Mawes and Prince of Wales Pier, Falmouth, seven days a week for the rest of the winter.
As well as expanding the refit team Cornwall Ferries plan to recruit a charter manager and an events manager as demand for its range of services increases.
Sales manager, Claire Wood, said: "We are getting more charter enquiries than ever before mainly from weddings, anniversaries and increasingly corporate events.
"The plan is to make Enterprise 2 our flagship charter boat and the team will be fitting heating, new toilets, a new bar, lighting and a range of other improvements that will mean we can offer quieter and more all weather service for our passengers."
The company has also reported an increase in the sales of the Fal Mussel Card scheme over the summer.
Launched in 2010 the transport and attraction pass, which runs from Easter to October, allows visitors to enjoy unlimited 'hop on, hop off' travel on buses, trains and ferries during their stay.
Designed to reduce visitors' needs to use a car they also have the option to upgrade to a 'PLUS' version, which includes unlimited entry to all the attractions, castles and museums around the river.
