Falmouth Classics Regatta 2013
Preparations are under way for the 2014
Falmouth Classics Regatta which organisers believe will attract more entrants
than ever before.
The three day event, which sees beautiful
classic boats racing and rallying in and around the Fal Estuary, is now
becoming a permanent fixture in the Falmouth sailing calendar in June.
The decision to move the event to its new
time took place last year. Previously it had been tacked-on to the front of the
Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week.
The new date, running alongside the popular
Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, has been hailed a success with
glowing feedback following the 2013 regatta and an increase in out-of-port entries
despite poor weather for the actual event.
This year will see improvements made to the
official regatta website which was newly created last year. The event's media
partner, Eight Wire, is currently upgrading the site to improve an online
booking system for competitors and add more information about the event.
Henry Roberts, chairman of Falmouth
Classics Association, said: "Holding the regatta alongside the sea shanty festival
was popular last year and we are now working to build on that success.
"We expect the weekend to deliver
entertainment both ashore and afloat that keeps within the spirit of classic
sailing and its camaraderie."
The regatta is open to all classic sailing
yachts and boats built 'in the classic spirit' that are smaller than 60ft long,
while the boat parade is open to any boat with a classic-styled hull, including
yachts, motor boats and rowing boats. Yachts over 60ft will be considered at
the organiser's discretion.
The Falmouth Classics Regatta will take
place between Friday 13th and Sunday 15th June.
