Falmouth and its many floral displays have made it through to the finals of Britain in Bloom 2013. Judges will now visit Falmouth's gardens over the summer months as part of a tour round the eighty towns and villages across the UK who have made the shortlist.

The team behind the displays has been congratulated by MP for Truro and Falmouth, Sarah Newton.

She said: ''The volunteers and council employees who keep Falmouth looking so resplendent are to be congratulated on this new accolade.

''Reaching the finals of the Britain in Bloom competition is a considerable achievement, and I know Falmouth will be a real contender. From our magnificent, and distinctly Cornish, town parks, to the many beautifully maintained private graders, through to the town-wide focus on the environment, contenders in the finals will face real competition from  Falmouth and the dedicated groups and individuals who look after its green spaces.''

The winner of the competition will be announced at an award ceremony in Cleethorpes in October.
