Final preparations are underway for the 2012 Truro and Penwith Fal River Festival, which officially launches on Friday (June, 1).

The festival, which began in 2006, will run from Friday, June 1 to Sunday, June 10, with around 150 events celebrating life on and around the Fal River.

Over 100,000 people enjoyed the event last year raising £75,000 for charity in the process.

Organisers are hoping that the festival running over the Diamond Jubilee weekend will help them beat those figures.

Toby Budd, festival director, said: "We're really looking forward to this year's event.

"I think what is great this year is that the festival coincides with the Diamond Jubilee weekend and will bring even more people out to enjoy the celebrations.

"There is a real buzz in Cornwall, and Falmouth in particular, at the moment after the Olympic Torch relay and Finn Gold Cup, so it's great to help keep that going."

The festival unofficially launches on Thursday (May, 31) with Finley Quaye's first gig in Cornwall.

The Brit and MOBO award-winning artist will be performing in Events Square, Falmouth.

This is followed on Friday (June, 1) by the traditional Beer Fleet launch, which sees a flotilla of boats journey from Trelissick Garden to Custom House Quay, before the event is officially opened in Events Square.

The third Fal Fish Festival runs from Sunday, June 3 to Monday, June 4, with cooking demonstrations from some of Cornwall's leading chefs, including Paul Ripley from Rick Stein's Seafood Bar.

Anyone feeling adventurous will be able to abseil the National Maritime Museum tower with BF Adventure or take part in the RNLI's Castle to Castle swim, both on Sunday, June 3.

Organisers also want people to get involved by posting photos on the festival's Facebook page – www.facebook.com/FalRiverFestival or by Tweeting them to @falriverfest using the hashtag #FRF12.

Toby added: "The festival is all about community and we want as many people to get involved in the events, as well as helping us create a buzz online."
