The owners of a family-run pig farm in Busveal are celebrating a century amid a year of widespread recognition.
Award-winning sausages from Primrose Herd
The buzz around Primrose Herd and its sausages, bacon and other pork products is at an all-time high after top prizes at food industry events across the country this year took the company beyond 100 awards overall.
Primrose, which supplies food to retailers and restaurants in Cornwall and beyond, has picked up more than 20 prizes over the past 12 months alone.
It was crowned regional champion in the speciality pork product category at the BPEX Regional Roadshow for its Cornish Hogs Pudding and topped the bill at events including Bacon Connoisseur's Week, British Sausage Week, the Great Taste Awards and the Taste of the West Awards.
Primrose's Sally Lugg said the accolades are a welcome acknowledgment of the effort the company has put into offering quality produce.
"We're incredibly proud of our products so to have that backed up by recognition of this scale from respected industry experts is wonderful for us. We've managed to create a good name for ourselves over the years and awards like these are the icing on the cake," she said.
With the run-up to Christmas in full swing, Primrose Herd has received bumper orders for festive favourites including gammon, rosemary and cranberry sausages and chipolatas made from its award-winning pork sausage meat.
This year also marks another milestone for the company as it celebrates the tenth anniversary of its support of Truro Farmers Market. "Ten years feels like a landmark worth celebrating," said Sally. "We're thrilled to have been associated with the market for a decade now and we've really enjoyed playing our part."
Primrose Herd is involved in sustaining traditionally-bred rare-breed pigs including pedigree Gloucester Old Spots, Large Blacks and Saddlebacks.
