Average Energy Consumption of Households in Falmouth – how do you compare to the rest of country?

In times of austerity, keeping a close check on household bills is even more important, and if statistics are to be believed, Falmouth’s household energy bills might be a little higher than you would expect.   How much do you think a year’s bill might be?  Have a guess...

Falmouth Energy Bills

Having discovered recently that Falmouth (or at least, Carick) is amongst the average for crime rates, it would seem that we have a similar story when it comes to energy bills - ranked 225 out of 408 towns listed.  However, the bill itself is rather high, a total of £1222 (£691 electricity and £531 gas).

Alertme provides a context for the figures in terms of your carbon footprint as well.  The average Falmouth household produces 4.98 tonnes of CO2 a year, which is the equivalent of driving around the world 1.39 times...in a bus.

Compounding this rather grim figure, it would seem that the whole of the south west is ‘below average’ when it comes to energy saving behaviour.  Updated every 24 hours, the information draws on past data to find out ‘expected behaviour’, and in this comparison, we are doing even worse than cities such as London.

We wrote a while back about green energy and our thoughts on wind farm power, and in that vein the site also calculates how much money you could save by putting a solar panel on your roof.  By calculating roof size and average yearly hours of sunlight, it estimates that anything in the TR11 area could save £1194 with 2,476kwh each year.  (We get 1508 hours of sunshine a year, apparently?!)
