Falmouth could face fortnightly rubbish collections

Falmouth could soon have some of its rubbish collected fortnightly after Cornwall Council voted earlier this week to change the way our rubbish and recycling is collected.

Food waste will be collected weekly, however non recyclable waste could be picked up every two weeks.
Both options would include a mixture of weekly and fortnightly pick-ups. The options are:
Both options seem to have their own benefits. Option 1 ensures our rubbish is collected weekly. However, option two would encourage more people to recycle. One local resident told FalmouthPeople that: “I prefer option two as it would stop recycling piling up. However, seagulls get into bin bags and if non recyclable waste is collected every two weeks, the bags would pile up and get attacked.”
The changes won’t happen for a while as the council are looking for companies interested in the contract.
Julian German, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Waste Management says public opinion is important: “When we have the financial information back from companies tendering for the contracts the public views will play an important part in a final decision.”
What do you think? Which option would you prefer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

We need to encourage more recycling so this should be collected weekly otherwise you get a build up of bulky stuff such as cardboard, bottles and tins. Food waste really needs to be collected weekly for health reasons. Anything should be collected fortnightly.
