The Fish Factory, a new gallery and artist studio space in Falmouth, is holding an Open Doors weekend for volunteers who want to get involved.

The building will be open from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May for volunteers to get their hands dirty and help get it ready for the first exhibition at the end of May.

Currently being renovated in a former scallop packing plant overlooking the River Fal, The Fish Factory will offer artists studio and gallery space to rent and host regular exhibitions of contemporary art.

Artist Rose Hatcher is leading the project, and is keen to get other local artists involved. She says, “At the Open Doors weekend we want to have a lot of fun getting The Fish Factory ready for opening night. We need people to paint signs, textile specialists to make a flag, muscly types to set up exhibition boards, and anyone who'd like to lend a hand painting, cleaning and touching up the space. Wear practical clothes and be ready to get your hands dirty!”

The Open Doors weekend is also an opportunity to see The Fish Factory if you are interested in using its studio, exhibition or rehearsal space.

The venue is looking for volunteers to help out with marketing and technical expertise such as lighting and sound. If you are interested in volunteering in these areas, the Open Doors weekend is again a chance to chat about how you'd like to get involved.

The Fish Factory is at Falmouth Wharves, North Parade, Falmouth, TR11 2TF. For more information on the Open Doors weekend contact Rose Hatcher on 07810 036155 or rosehatcher@live.co.uk.

Sounds interesting. I bet there's great view from the studios. Right on the waterfront.
