A Wadebridge man, airlifted by the Cornwall Air Ambulance, would like to thank the crew and everyone who helped to save his life.

75-year-old grandfather of five, John Borrott was volunteering at Pencarrow House's Snowdrop Sunday event last year when he suffered a heart attack.

"I had just finished counting some of the donation money;" said Mr Borrott "and was just leaving the house and coming down the steps when suddenly everything went black.

"I felt as though everything had switched off and I fell to the ground.

Jo Goode, who also works for Pencarrow, was right beside John when he collapsed.

"I knew something was very wrong;" said Jo "so I yelled for someone to call 999."

The Cornwall Air Ambulance was dispatched and on it's way within three minutes.

"An off duty doctor and first aid team were nearby and they helped me administer CPR as John was struggling to breathe." Added Jo.

"The Cornwall Air Ambulance arrived really quickly and I can honestly say that I have never been so happy to see it.

"The paramedics took control of the situation and John was airlifted to Treliske hospital."

Whilst flying Mr Borrott to hospital the paramedics had to start his heart a second time.

He was in hospital for two and a half weeks where he was fitted with a pacemaker.

"I feel as though I have been given a second life;" said Mr Borrott.  "I'm nearly a year old now in this life and I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who saved my life that day, including the doctor that helped out.

"I am also indebted to Lady Molesworth St Aubyn for her help and support to my wife."

"Had it not been for Jo and the air ambulance crew and the doctor I wouldn't be here, simple as that."

Mr Borrott, whose family have worked at Pencarrow for four generations, suggested to the organisers of Snowdrop Sundays to support the Cornwall Air Ambulance by way of thanks for helping save his life.

Sunday February 10 will see the first event raise money for the charity that helped save him last year.

The gardens will be open between 10am-4pm, and as always dogs are welcome in the grounds.

Susie Smith, fundraising manager for the Air Ambulance said "We are delighted to be partnering with Pencarrow House for Snowdrop Sunday.

"It's stories like Mr Borrott's that are the reason the Cornwall Air Ambulance is such a vital service in the county.

"I really hope everyone can get along to Snowdrop Sunday, the gardens are truly beautiful, and you will help the Air Ambulance to save time and save lives, like we were able to do for Mr Borrott."
