Falmouth is a picturesque place so it’s no surprise lots of people choose to get married here. Planning a wedding can be a daunting task. Thankfully though, FalmouthPeople is here to help with our Guide to Weddings. Part one looks at venues, dresses and flowers. So, were to start?
-
Falmouth has amazing views - perfect for your special day.
The big day...
All weddings need to be held somewhere, and the more romantic the better. We’re lucky in Falmouth as we have tonnes of hotels ready to cater for your ceremony and reception. The Budock Vean, The Green Lawns, St Michael’s Hotel and the Falmouth Hotel are all popular choices. Obviously there is also a range of churches in the area if that’s your thing. But our town has a lot more to offer.
Not just hotels and churches...
If none of the above take your fancy then Falmouth has a surprising amount of alternatives. Did you know you can get married a Pendennis Castle? You can chose between one of their rooms, or for larger gatherings, they’ll put up a marquee. Not only will the event blow your guests away but so will the views. For prices and further details click here.
Trebah Gardens is another unique location. A sub-tropical paradise with its own beach, it’s rated in the top 80 gardens in the world. They limit the number of receptions they hold to keep the venue exclusive. They’re fully booked for this year but do have spaces for 2011 and 2012. You can find out more here.
The National Maritime Museum also caters for your special day. You can’t have the service there but they do offer receptions and amazing views across the harbour. If you fancy making a spectacular entrance then you could arrive on a wedding boat. More can be found here.
Finally, while we’re talking about receptions, you’re not just restricted to land. Various boat companies offer wedding cruises around the river Fal. You can check our business directory for a comprehensive list of businesses.
Dresses, suits, flowers and more...
The day isn’t just about the location. As any woman will tell you, it’s about the dress! Right in the centre of town is Elegant Brides. They offer a full range of dresses, bridesmaid dresses and even do menswear. Check them out here. For the bridegroom, there’s also Moss Bros. They offer hire services and have really helpful staff. Check them out here.
Morris Antique Lace Wedding Gowns also do dresses. They can be found here.
Flowers are also paramount. There are a number of florists scattered throughout the town. Most of the florists offer bouquets and arrangements for your big day. All their details can be found in our business directory.
So everything is in place and now you need to invite the guests. Handmade Wedding Stationery do exactly what their name says. They make hand made invitations for your special day. To get in contact click here.
Now the guests are invited you need to thank them. Favours are the standard way to do this and a great place to find some great gifts is Morgans. They have a wide range of gifts and jewelry at reasonable prices. You might also want to check out Falmouth’s range of local artists and jewelry makers.

ReportI had my reception at the Penmorvah Manor just outside Falmouth at Budock Water. It's a lovely place and I can thoroughly recommend it. Have also been to a fair few weddings in Falmouth and have always had a great time.
