Local girl - Sarah Newton
Whilst campaigning, she had four main pledges:
1. I will be a full-time MP and work 100% for you. I will only claim expenses necessary to do the job of MP well. I will not claim any expenses for a second home outside the constituency.
2. I will publish:
· Details of all Parliamentary expense claims I make as I make them
· Details of who I employ with the Parliamentary staffing allowance and what they do. I will not employ members of my family
· Details of my schedule so that you can see exactly what I am doing on your behalf.
3. I will listen to you and do all I can to help. This will include continuing to knock on doors across the constituency to introduce myself personally and holding regular surgeries around the constituency which are easy to get to.
4. I will have an office in the constituency, with helpful staff, open to the public at least five days a week.
She is the daughter of a well known Falmouth business man and attended Falmouth School. She worked in many different fields before becoming an MP. Most recently she was the Director of the International Longevity Centre in the UK, which she describes as an international ‘think and do tank'.
Sarah Newton was just 435 votes ahead of Liberal Democrat candidate Terrye Teverson. Labour, UKIP, Mebyon Kernow and the Greens are all quite a way behind.
The former Falmouth constituency, that includes Camborne, has also gone Conservative with a majority of just 66 votes.
