Julian purveys reggae with an immaculate pedigree

Roots reggae, driving anthems, breezy jazz sounds and samba-tinged Jamaican ska are all in the musical melting pot cooked up by Julian Marley, who is in concert with his top-notch eight-piece band at Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion on Tuesday, August 3. Julian – known as “Ju Ju” – is the son of the world’s most venerated reggae superstar, the late Bob Marley. With a rich, warm voice that’s uncannily similar to his father, Julian’s music also echoes the same vibrancy and commitment to the spirit of Rastafari.
Arts cafe party launches EP and a new cinema club
Cornish clay country collective BackbeatSoundSystem will headline the Eden Project’s Arts Cafe when it returns on Friday, August 6 after a break for this year’s Sessions. The Summer at the Mothership event will be the launch party for the band’s new EP,
The evening, also sees the launch of the Southwest Open Cinema Club, part of a national network to make film, arts and culture more accessible for all.
Modern wild man blues harks back to bygone time
Hat Fitz, the “wild man” of Australian blues, joins forces with Belfast drummer Cara Robinson for a show at Plymouth B-Bar next month. Hailing from Queensland, he plays metal resonator guitar, stomps his foot and sings the blues with a huge physical presence. The blending of pre-war hill country and delta blues with traditional Celtic folk has produced a truly unique musical style that’s raw, raucous and relevant.
