As I'm sure most of you will have heard by now, Rick Stein is set to open a new fish and chip restaurant in Falmouth this Spring.

Rick and his ex-wife Jill have spent over thirty years building up their business in Padstow, which includes four restaurants, a deli, patisserie, gift shop, cookery school and 40 guest bedrooms, as well as a pub in the nearby village of St Merryn, but Rick Stein’s Fish and Chips in Falmouth will be their first venture away from the Padstow area.
“We signed the lease in December” said Rick Stein, adding that they have already commenced renovations to the building. These will include the complete overhaul of the old shop interior to create the open plan kitchen and restaurant, along with a take away, all in the same design as Stein’s Fish and Chips in Padstow. The existing mezzanine floor will be transformed into an oyster bar, serving fresh River Fal oysters, selected wines and champagne.
Downstairs will be the open-plan restaurant and kitchen, with the upstairs housing
the oysterbar serving fabulous local Fal oysters and champagne.
Stein’s inspiration for his flagship Seafood Restaurant originally came
from a restaurant in Falmouth that he and Jill frequented during the
1970’s, so they are both familiar with the area.
The kitchen and front-of-house team will consist of around 30 members, bringing welcome employment to the town, much needed at the moment. If you are interested in applying for a position you can do so through the Rick Stein website. Falmouth People will be bringing you a review of the restaurant soon and we are keen to hear what you think of the venture in the meantime so please do add your comments below!
