Well-orchestrated police staff in Cornwall have helped reunite a ten-year-old boy with his beloved iPod after he thought it had gone forever.

Jonathan Deacon had spent a year saving up for the £250 music-playing gadget and was distraught after losing it somewhere in his home town of Falmouth.

The Apple iPod Touch went missing three weeks ago and Jonathan had searched high and low for it but was unable to track it down. And, as the hi-tech device was not marked with his name or details in any way, he thought it gone for good.

But thanks to on-song police staff and an honest member of the public, the boy and his iPod were reunited today.

Local man John Bergman found the music playing gadget near to Jonathan’s home and promptly handed it in to the local police station.

The station enquiry officer then passed it on to the property office in St Austell where the members of staff noted the device’s serial number and passed it on to the manufacturers and they in turn contacted Jonathan’s mum who had registered it in her name.

Jonathan’s mum, Louise Midgley, has now written letters of thanks to the police involved and the man who found the iPod.

She said: “We are all so grateful to the police staff concerned  - they actually took the trouble to pass its serial number on to Apple – who contacted me via a call centre this morning with the good news.

“You cannot imagine how downcast Jonathan has been about losing this (rather expensive) gadget. It is his prized possession. He saved up all his birthday and Christmas money from family and friends over 12 months. We are utterly delighted and astonished we are to be getting it back.”
