Local bands are being given the chance to warm up the crowds at this year’s Falmouth Sound festival, featuring some of the biggest names in the music industry.

The event being held over the August Bank Holiday weekend promises an eclectic mix of music from 21st-century indie, blues and folk to vintage reggae, rocksteady and ska.

But before the big-name acts take to the stage at night, there are daytime slots available for the area’s best musicians to make their own mark. For details of how to get involved visit thisiscornwall.co.uk

Liverpool indie band The Wombats, whose single ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ won them Best Dancefloor Filler at the NME Awards top the bill on August 29, while reggae legends The Wailers, head up the show on August 30.

Also performing over the two days in Events Square will be alternative rock band The Boxer Rebellion, who have outsold artists including Kings Of Leon, Coldplay and MGMT on US iTunes, finger-picking blues man Fink, who was born in Cornwall, Irish songwriter Foy Vance, former Specials lead singer Neville Staple, who will be appearing with his own band, and Gabbidon, founding member of the seventies reggae band Steel Pulse.

Tickets can be bought from the Falmouth Sound website.
