to explore the College and its resources and get the advice they need
for their future career or progression in education.
Whether you are a school
leaver, want a change of career, or would like to try something new,
Falmouth Marine School could have the course for you.
Those who attend the event, which runs
from 10am until 2pm will be able to get a feel for
student life when they meet staff and students, visit departments and
gather information about courses available at the College.
Staff will be on hand to
offer advice and guidance on courses and qualifications in
Boatbuilding, Leisure & Watersports, Marine Engineering and
Marine Science. Courses are also available in basic reading, writing
and IT skills.
The College is hoping for a
high number of visitors on its second ever Open Event to be held on a
Saturday. The first was held last year on 28th November
and attracted record numbers of visitors, some travelling from as far
as Wiltshire and Kent.
The College is communicating
the message that ‘there's more for you at Falmouth Marine School’
with visitors being offered financial advice, information on
transport, learning support, student Xtra activities and the Academy
Sports Programme as well as learning about various career options.
Head of Falmouth Marine
School Tom Shaw, said: “This is a great opportunity for the local
community to come and see the range of courses that we offer, meet
staff and get a general feel for the Marine School. We feel that we
have a lot to offer our students and our schedule of advice sessions
is a perfect way to assist them in the decisions they have to make”.
Dave Linnell OBE, Principal
of Cornwall College, said: “Our excellent range of courses, give
our students the best chance of going on to further study or getting
their foot on the career ladder. Our tutors are specialists in their
fields and enjoy passing on their knowledge to new learners. We have
great links with employers so students undertaking a vocational route
leave the College with qualifications and experience relevant to
industry."
