Work will start on eight new council houses in Falmouth this week.

The eight houses are part of Cornwall Council’s Homechoice scheme and will be only available to rent.

They will be built on Trescobeas Road on the site of the old Central Kitchens. The contractor, Mi Space, will start work later this week with the demolition of the current derelict buildings on the site.

The large family houses, which will be maintained by Carrick Housing, have been designed with the environment in mind. Once completed  they will boast some eco-friendly, energy efficient features all designed to help the tenants save money.

The council houses had been due to be completed by the Spring but were delayed after the previous contractors went into administration. They are now due to be finished by November.

What do you think? Will these houses ease Falmouth’s housing problems? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
