At the top of Jacob's Ladder is a pub worth the walk up the steep steps: Jacob's Ladder (or the Jake's as it's known locally). A friendly crew and good beer/cider make it worth the visit. Keep an eye on the blackboard outside or on their website to check the music and quiz nights every week.

Both of the previous reviewers are spot on the money. Jabobs Ladder is a great pub, which can get a little rowdy with the student crowd. But then again, its no mmore boisterous than some other parts of town habited by the locals. The live gigs are good, and the owners friendly. Must stress how much nicer it is since the refurb a few years ago - does anyone remember the old concrete floors out the back?!

If you've managed the trek up the ladder then you've probably earned your drink here. Like steprentiss said, this place can be quite studenty but as a big fan of live music, I often find myself here.

Good music but small bar and can be very studenty. I'm not saying thats a bad thing but if you want a quiet drink this may not be the place. They have quite a good sofa area. Just don't try to walk down Jacobs Ladder after a few!!!
