Falmouth School could become an Academy if parents agree.
The school is currently holding a consultation and is inviting parents and the wider community to have their say.
The move would see the school opt of Local Authority control and have the ability to vary curriculum and allocate money as they see fit. Funding would come directly from the government and the governing body would be responsible for employing staff.
Cornwall Council would retain responsibility of transport, special educational needs and admissions.
Matt Boyling, Chairman of the Board of Govenors told parents in a letter: “The Governing Body will be making the decision as to whether or not to proceed with conversion to academy status later in the Summer Term after consultation with parents, staff, students, other schools locally and the wider community.”
The number of schools applying to become Academies has risen in recent months. Penryn College became the first school in the county to make the decision to become an academy earlier in the year.

Julian's right. No-one really cares about academies, and unless (until?) local schools start to make a pigs ear of their finances, that won't change. As long as their kids are reasonably happy when inside the four walls, parents are happy.

ReportTo be honest, I don't really care if they change or not. Cornwall Council will still be in charge of a number of things and I doubt the curriculum and term times would alter that much. I guess the move would benefit the teachers more than anyone else.
