This week saw the return of Safer Internet day and schools across Falmouth had lessons based around staying safe whilst surfing the web.

But it’s not just kids that need the information, us adults could also do with a brush-up too.

One of the biggest problems people have with computers and the Internet are viruses. Owen Cullen from Computer Spares Warehouse (opposite Argos) recommends people “ensure people have a decent anti-virus software installed on their computer.”

If you’re looking for a good anti-virus, one of Falmouth’s computer shops will be able to help. Just click here to find the details of the shops in our business directory.

The kids are alright

One concern of many parents is what their kids get up to online. Falmouth Library has a few leaflets available that give handy tips on topics such as music piracy and social networking.

One area that is being highlighted in this year’s Safer Internet Day campaign is the dangers children face with online gaming. The UK’s Safer Internet Centre say: “there is a significant need for both parents and children to apply online safety thinking to games. Children can still face potential risks such as contact with strangers and exposure to inappropriate material in this environment”

What do you think? Are children safe enough online? Do you do anything to protect your kids whilst their surfing the net? Let us know in the comments.

A great idea for a 'day'. Could've done with some bigger promotion, mind. Local traders could have come in to schools and given out leaflets (which would advertise sale items, of course). Good way to link local web users with local web specialist shops.
