STUDENTS from Pencalenick School at Truro were recently treated to sail onboard Falmouth Marine School’s lugger.
The Year 9 and 10 pupils and some teachers were given an introductory talk about the making and sailing of traditional boats before setting sail themselves.
They later had a tour of the marine school which included visits to the marine biology laboratories and engineering workshops.
Chris Briggs, from Pencalenick School, said: “We were really impressed with the qualities and opportunities for our students at Falmouth Marine School.
“I believe our students would be really happy at the college and are really looking forward to their post-16 education.”
The taster day was funded through the Wooden Boatbuilders’ Training Association project which aims to share best practice between partners and provide access to traditional boats to groups that would not usually have the opportunity.
